S/o Captain America for being down with us 🫡
On April 7th, Kansas City voters will see the earnings tax (e-tax) on the ballot as Question 1.
The e-tax is critical to maintaining essential city services and protecting jobs across Kansas City. Without it, we risk higher taxes that hit working class and financially vulnerable people the hardest, along with cuts to the services our neighborhoods rely on.
I’m thinking about the folks who keep our city running every day, who literally can’t afford a substantial increase in property and sales taxes to replace the revenue from the e-tax. That’s why I’m voting YES on April 7th.

Meet Catherine! She’s the owner of Baker’s Table and the mastermind behind some of the best cinnamon rolls (and maple bacon cheddar biscuits) I’ve had in the Kansas City area. She’ll be hosting one last pop-up this month at Good Karma Coffee on Sunday, 3/29, so make sure to swing by and check it out!
P.S. I’ve also been told that her peach cobbler cinnamon rolls are sent from above but she only has them during certain days at her brick and mortar in Parkville so be on the look out!

Glad I was able to visit @blaqoutkc to attend a panel discussion hosted by @transguysgatherkc with community leaders Korea and Anakin about building space, community and power in LGBTQ communities, with respect to the Black queer and trans community.
Also, I’d like to boost @lgbtqpeaceproject which is working to reduce loneliness and depression in the LGBTQ community. Please feel free to follow and support these orgs.
Lastly, there will be a Trans Day of Visibility Resource Fair on March 31st. Visit @twocc_org for more information!
Last night, I joined workers, parents, and community members across KC to stand against efforts to eliminate Missouri’s income tax and further disinvest in our schools, senior services, infrastructure, healthcare, and other essential public resources.
Shifting from an income tax to a sales tax would place an even greater burden on working class families while giving a tax break to the wealthiest. It’ll take even more funding away from our schools, educators and students during a time when resources are in desperate need. That’s not fairness. That’s shifting responsibility onto those who can least afford it. A tale as old as time.
We deserve fully funded schools, accessible healthcare, and strong community investments.
Contact your state senators and tell them you oppose expanding the sales tax and support investing in our communities:

Our first Healthy Community Series event was a great success.
Jennifer Lindsey led us through a yoga flow inspired by civil rights leaders Rosa Parks, reminding us that rest is radical and collective self-care is important for the work we do to support and uplift our communities.
Afterward, we had a powerful conversation about the barriers to physical activity in our city—and how many of those same barriers also limit access to food, employment, and healthcare.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, to Jennifer for leading us, and to my fam @freighthousefitness for providing the space.
Jennifer (@hijenlin )also teaches at Very Well KC in downtown Overland Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, so be sure to check out her classes if you want to keep the practice going.
Excited to keep building healthier communities together. Stay tuned for the next one!! 💪🏾
WE OUTSIDE!!
Helped pick up invasive honeysuckle in Kessler Park Saturday morning in an effort led by @repwick (Wick and other community members will be out there every Second Saturday of the month at 8:30 am) then picked up a couple bags trash in my own neighborhood this morning before 2nd winter arrived.
Always an opportunity to make a big impact!!
We’re launching our new Healthy Community Event Series!
These events will be all about coming together to have meaningful conversations about the health issues impacting our community while also making space to prioritize our own health.
We’re kicking things off with a Yoga Flow at Freight House Fitness, led by Jennifer Lindsay @hijenlin on March 14th from 2-4pm.
After class, stick around for a community conversation with me about what health looks like in the 4th District.
Space is limited! Sign up now with the link in our bio.
The cost of the class is a suggested $25 donation to the DC 4 KC campaign.
What to bring:
• Your own yoga mat and water
• Athletic clothes and shoes
See you on the mat! Can’t wait to chat with you.
I had a great time attending the @echoesofthecitykc Roots and Rise Gala celebrating some of Kansas City’s incredible Black voices and leaders. It was especially meaningful to share the evening with members of the team behind Uzazi Village, whose work is dedicated to improving maternal and infant health outcomes for Black, Brown, and other families in Kansas City and beyond through comprehensive, culturally relevant prenatal and postnatal care.
